Chrysiptera ( synonym Glyphidodontops Bleeker , 1877) is a genus of Indo-Pacific damselfish (Pomacentridae). They live on the reef roof and the outer zones of the coral reefs and in lagoons . The main distribution areas are the coastal waters of Indonesia and the Philippines and the Red Sea .

features

Chrysiptera species are relatively small damselfish that in most cases reach a standard length of less than 7 cm. The largest species, Chrysiptera biocellata , becomes a maximum of 12.5 cm long. The standard length for most species is 2.1 to 2.7 times the body height. Chrysiptera species are often brightly colored. The jaws are covered with two rows of teeth. The edges of the preoperculum and the suborbital bones are usually smooth.

The genus is poorly diagnosed and needs revision , and it is likely to be divided into several genera.
