Chrysolina haemoptera is a beetle from the leaf beetle family (Chrysomelidae).
features
The beetles are between 5.5 and 8.5 millimeters long. The matt blue-black colored cover wings are roughly dotted, the dotting is double, i. H. it consists of coarse and finer points next to each other. The pronotum ( pronotum ) is black, with a faint blue or ore-colored metallic sheen, it has no longitudinal grooves, but can have a weak transverse impression at its base; the sides of the pronotum do not have a side bulge delimited by notches. The puncture of the pronotum is fine but densely packed, about twice as dense as that of the elytra. The sides of the pronotum are narrowed in a straight line towards the front.

distribution
The beetle species is found in the western Palearctic . It is widespread but rare in Europe.
Way of life
Host plants and forage plants of the beetle species are plantain ( Plantago ), especially crow's foot plantain ( Plantago coronopus ). Imago and larva feed on the leaves of the plant genus. The beetles can be seen from late March to late October, but most frequently between late July and mid-October.
The endoparasite of adult beetles is the larva of Policheta unicolor , a representative of the caterpillar flies (Tachinidae). The larvae of Anaphes chrysomelae from the family of the dwarf wasps (Mymaridae) are considered to be the egg parasite of Chrysolina haemoptera .
Taxonomy
The species was first described by Linnaeus as Chrysomela haemoptera Linnaeus in 1758. The younger homonymous name haemoptera Rossi, 1790 refers to Chrysolina interstincta subsp. subseriata (Suffrian, 1851). The following are found in the literature Synonyms : Chrysomela acuticollis Fairmaire , 1877, Chrysomela atra Goeze , 1777 Chrysomela cameranoi Piolti , 1880, Chrysomela erythroptera cabinet , 1781 Chrysomela Goettingensis cabinet , 1789 (nec Linnaeus , 1761) Chrysomela hottentota Fabricius , 1792 Chrysomela molluginis Brahm , 1790, Chrysomela nigra Fourcroy , 1785, Chrysomela subaenea Duftschmid , 1825.
In addition to the nominate form, a distinction is made between the following subspecies:
- Chrysolina haemoptera byzantia Jolivet , 1951. Endemic to Turkey, widespread in the Marmara region.
- Chrysolina haemoptera corvina ( Weise , 1916). Endemic to Italy, taxonomically controversial.
The species is, under the synonymous name Chrysomela hottentota , type species of the subgenus Colaphodes Motschulsky , 1860, which also includes only one other species described, Chrysolina bigorrensis ( Fairmaire, 1865 ) , which is common in the Pyrenees .
