Chuck Austin

Charles "Chuck" Austin (born June 17, 1927 ; † May 26, 2012 ) was an American jazz trumpeter who was active in the Pittsburgh jazz scene .

Live and act

Austin toured with Paul Williams in the 1950s , accompanying Dakota Staton in 1953 and leading the Trumpet Section in the Roger Humphries Big Band . He also starred on the Ed Sullivan Show with Lloyd Price and Count Basie . For many years he was a member of the Stanley Theater Orchestra, in which he accompanied guest artists such as Aretha Franklin , Donna Summer , James Brown and The Temptations , as well as Diana Ross at her performance in the Civic Arena and Liza Minnelli at the Heinz Hall. He played for Jack Purcell Music Service for thirty years . From 1966 he was a member of the Pittsburgh Musician's Union , was a founding member of the African American Jazz Preservation Society of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Jazz Society Hall of Fame . In the field of jazz, Austin participated in five recording sessions between 1956 and 2003.
