Cidadelhe is a locality and former municipality in the north of Portugal .

The Portuguese writer and Nobel Prize winner José Saramago immortalized the village in his book The Portuguese Journey .

The Parque Arqueológico do Vale do Côa , recognized as a World Heritage Site since 1998 , is located near the village.

Cidadelhe was the seat of a municipality ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Pinhel . 40 inhabitants live in the former municipality area (as of June 30, 2011).

As part of the administrative reorganization in Portugal in 2013 , the municipality of Cidadelhe was dissolved on September 29, 2013 and merged with the municipality of Azevo to form the new municipality of Vale do Côa . The seat of the new parish was Azevo.
