Company history

After graduating from INSEAD business school , Robert Keane founded Vistaprint in Paris in 1995 . His idea behind founding Vistaprint was to match the needs of small businesses for small print runs of business cards, stationery and promotional materials and those of print shops for large print runs. In January 2000, the company's headquarters were relocated to Waltham in the US state of Massachusetts . The company employed 28 people there, 63 internationally. By April 2001, Vistaprint already had 300,000 registered users (165,000 in the United States and 140,000 in Europe), generating sales of $ 26.5 million. According to the annual GAM 101 list (6th edition of 2007), Vistaprint was the fourth-fastest growing company in the North American printing industry and was ranked 40th on the list of largest companies (based on revenue). The company's market value made it the sixth largest public company in local printing industry. For the period June 30, 2001 through June 30, 2009, the company's annual revenue increased from $ 6.1 million to $ 515 million. According to a survey by compete.com, the Vistaprint.com website had 7,556,490 visitors in June 2008. In fiscal year 2012/13, sales reached $ 1,167 million. The structure of the company was changed in May 2008; since then, Vistaprint has two region-specific businesses in North America and Europe. At the top are two women, Wendy Cebula, President of the North American Business Unit and Janet Holian, President for Vistaprint Europe in Barcelona, Spain. In 2011 Vistaprint took over the Dutch photo book manufacturer Albumprinter for 60 million euros. Vistaprint operated 24 regionalized websites in 2011 and employed 3,100 people worldwide serving eleven million customers. Albumprinter is the second largest supplier after CeWe Color with a market share of ten percent . The takeover of the web , which specializes in self-created pages, including Facebook , was completed in early 2012 with a volume of USD 117.5 million. On November 17, 2014, the company announced that it was changing its name with immediate effect and that it would operate under the name “Cimpress NV” in the future. Vistaprint will be retained as a brand.
