The Circuit Guadix is a permanent motorsport racing track in the province of Granada in Andalusia .

history

The facility was built in 2001 in the municipality of Guadix to promote motorsport in southern Spain . The Circuit Guadix was opened on June 3, 2002. On the same day, the first run of the Campeonato de Andalucia de Motociclismo took place in the presence of three-time British Superbike Champion Niall Mackenzie .

In 2006, the English businessman and amateur racing driver Clive Greenhalgh bought the remaining shares in the operating company and became the sole owner of the 200 hectare facility. In 2007 and 2008 the racetrack was expanded according to FIA guidelines. The circuit received a special asphalt, expanded run-off zones and new route deflectors. The track has been homologated by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile under the FIA ​​classification T1 (test track).

Route description

The technically demanding circuit is around 3000 meters long with the home straight of 750 meters (depending on the variant). The clockwise route has eight right and six left turns with a width of 10 to 12 meters. Some curves can be driven without insight. The run-off zones are spacious and designed according to today's standards. On the home straight there is a pit system with a control room and timing system.

Due to the favorable weather conditions, test drives by well-known international racing and motorcycle teams such as Renault, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, Porsche, Aston Martin, Peugeot and Honda take place on the Circuit Guadix all year round. The track is also often used by various teams to prepare for the 24-hour races for night test drives.

Well-known racing drivers

Well-known racing drivers who use this track are for example Leon Haslam , Jonathan Rea (both superbike drivers); Michael Schumacher undertook his first test drives with the Honda team as a motorcycle racer on the track. Emerson Fittipaldi's 15-year-old grandson gained his first experience on the route. Lewis Hamilton began his entry into Formula 1 after the kart racing successes in Guadix, before he became active in Formula 1. In 2013, Renault was active for several weeks with the test drives of the Renault Clio RS Turbo in Guadix under the direction of Alain Prost . Jacques Laffite is a frequent guest at the Circuit Guadix as a consultant for young French drivers.
