Coordinates: 40 ° 50 ′  S , 145 ° 7 ′  E Circular Head is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 4917 km² and has around 8000 inhabitants (2016).

Circular Head is located on the northwest tip of the island about 300 kilometers from the capital Hobart . The area includes 37 hamlets and villages: Alconde, Arthur River , Black River, Brittons, Broadmeadows, Christmas Hills, Cowrie Point, Crayfish Creek, Detention, Detention River, Edith Creek, Forest, Hellyer, Irishtown, Lileah, Marrawah , Mawbanna, Mella , Mengha, Montagu, Montagu Swamp, West Montagu, Nabageena, Port Latta, Redpa, Rocky Cape, Roger River, Scopus, Scothctown, Smithton, South Forest, Stanley , Swamp, Temma, Togari, Trowutta, Wiltshire and Woolnorth. The seat of the council is in Smithton on the coast in the north of the LGA, where about 3250 inhabitants live (2016).

The Circular Head Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and seven councilors are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Circular Head is not divided into districts.
