Arthur River

Arthur River is a small town on the banks of the Arthur River Estuary in Tasmania , on Australia's largest island . The place is approximately 61 kilometers from Smithton and approximately 15 kilometers from Marrawah .

The place was named after George Arthur , a lieutenant in the Dutch East India Company . About 370 people live in the village who work in fishing, forestry and, above all, in the tourism industry.

Arthur River is adjacent to a relatively unspoiled wilderness. There are holiday homes to rent, three campsites and two small shops. Angling and fishing for salmon and trout is a popular recreational sport on this river, as is hiking in the wilderness. There are organized boat trips on the river, and canoe and boat rentals are possible.
