Cous of the cous

The Ciste des Cous is a restored Neolithic dolmen with an unusual polygonal chamber in a round cairn in Bazoges-en-Pareds near Fontenay-le-Comte in the Vendée department in the Pays de la Loire in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for megalithic structures of all kinds ( see: French nomenclature ).

Cous of the cous

The complex is the oldest megalithic monument in the Vendée (around 4000 BC). The hexagonal chamber surrounded by a stepped cairn is made of nine stone slabs in the lower area. Your entrance, which is covered by a large slab inside, is around 4.0 m long. The entire superstructure above the chamber, which consists of a tholos (now open at the top) , was made of dry brickwork . The floor area is paved.

The megalithic complex was examined for the first time in 1913 and again in 1974 by Roger Jousseaume.

In the immediate vicinity is the largely destroyed dolmen "Pierre Folle des Cous". This Neolithic complex has three large monoliths on the head and four large lying stones on the sides, one of which is a giant boulder.
