The Citizen Holdings KK ( Jap. シチズンホールディングス株式会社, Shichizun Hōrudingusu Kabushiki Kaisha ) is a Japanese manufacturer in the field of microtechnology . The Citizen Group is divided into the five business areas “ Watches ”, “Electronic Products”, “Devices and Components”, “Machine Tools” and “Other Products and Services”. It employs around 16,000 people worldwide. The headquarters of the holding company are in Tokyo, Japan .
The company is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The largest single shareholder in 2018 was The Master Trust Bank of Japan with 11.08% of the shares.
history
The Citizen Watch KK was founded in May 1930th In 1964 Citizen founded the office machinery division. The Precision Machines division followed in 1971, and the System Peripherals division in 1981. In 1989 the company set up a factory in Scunthorpe , UK , manufacturing printers for the European market and the Middle East. In 1992 Citizen took over the German lathe manufacturer Boley GmbH in Esslingen am Neckar near Stuttgart, which was founded in 1870 .
Citizen Holdings KK emerged from Citizen Watch KK as part of the transformation into a pure holding company in April 2007. Today, the Citizen Group has numerous subsidiaries in Asia, Europe, North and South America and Australia.
