The Giuseppe Citterio Salumificio SpA is an international Italian food manufacturers . The family company based in Rho near Milan produces Italian meat specialties such as salami , Parma ham and San Daniele ham , Mortadella and Bresaola della Valtellina as well as South Tyrolean bacon and what is known in Italy as Wurstel ( Viennese sausages ) under the Citterio brand .
The Salumeria, founded by Giuseppe Citterio in 1878, initially produced the Salame di Milano , which he invented . Initially mainly for export , production was expanded around 1950 to include the Italian market and other meat products. From 1958 the production of sliced products packed under vacuum began , a market segment in which Citterio is still market leader today. The company employs around 1400 people and in 2004 generated sales of more than 350 million euros.
