The CitySpire Center is a 75-story building on 56th West Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues in Midtown Manhattan , New York City . It was completed in 1987 and is 248 meters high. The building has been owned by Tishman Speyer Properties since December 2004 . The architect of the skyscraper was Helmut Jahn . The construction work was carried out by the New York construction company Tishman Construction .
When the CitySpire Center was completed, it was the second tallest concrete building in the world. Currently (as of 2016) the CitySpire Center is the 18th tallest building in New York . It is also New York's tallest mixed-use and operational high-rise.
The bottom 23 floors of the building are used commercially. The other upper floors are used as luxury apartments. These apartments have a good view of the nearby Central Park . The tower has a total of 75 above-ground floors.
Particularly noteworthy is the creatively designed dome at the top of the building, which is illuminated with white light at night.
The building is close to Carnegie Hall Tower and the Metropolitan Tower . This group of modern skyscrapers is one of the most interesting compositions in the city. Since 2013, another skyscraper has been added with the 306-meter-high One57 , which stands out from the buildings in the vicinity in terms of height.
