Clara Ottilie Alexandrine Emilie Hoffbauer (born April 30, 1830 - February 28, 1909 ), née Becker , was the founder of the Hoffbauer Foundation .

Clara Becker was born as one of eight siblings. Her father Ludwig Becker was in Berlin Commerce . In 1850, Clara married the businessman Hermann Hoffbauer , who later founded a carpets factory with her brother Emil Becker. The couple moved to Potsdam on the Tornow peninsula in the Havelhaus in 1870 . The marriage remained childless.

The couple got involved socially. Sun founded Hermann Bauer Hoff in 1873 for its employees a health insurance and provident fund . The couple planned a Protestant foundation , which Hermann Hoffbauer did not live to see because of his death in 1884. After Hermann Hoffbauer's death, Clara Hoffbauer acquired part of the Tornow peninsula in 1889 as a location for the planned foundation. Construction began on June 10, 1891 and the foundation stones for the first three buildings were laid. The Hoffbauer Foundations received their first statute in the same year. The aim of the foundation was the upbringing and education of orphaned girls and young women in the Protestant sense and the care of sick and old people.

The Hoffbauer Foundation was inaugurated on June 30th, the birthday of Hermann Hoffbauer, in 1901. The foundation was endowed with assets of 6 million Reichsmarks (today inflation-adjusted EUR 41,200,000) and several buildings. The Tornow, where the foundation was located, was renamed Hermannswerder . Clara Hoffbauer donated all of her personal assets to the foundation.
