Clara Ethelinda Larter (born June 27, 1847 in Leeds , † May 13, 1936 in Torquay ) was a British botanist . Your botanical author abbreviation is " Larter ".

Career

Clara Ethelinda Larter was the daughter of the private tutor Thomas Larter. In her youth she was mainly involved in the church. In 1897 she appeared as a botanist for the first time as a botanist with the work Notes on the Botany of the Flora of North Devon . In 1900 she published the volume Manual of the Flora of Torquay . Clara Larter built an extensive herbarium , which was also equipped with an impressive collection of moss . She also showed an interest in seaweed and was considered an expert here. Larter was involved in botanical societies at the local level. In addition to the Devon County Society , she joined the Torquay Society from about 1909 . She temporarily took over the functions of editor of the reports and that of vice-president .

Act

Clara Larter contributed to a better knowledge of the flora of Devonshire through her numerous records . Her herbarium contained excellent material and was bequeathed to the Torquay Natural History Society after her death.

Appreciation

Clara Larter was made a member of the Linnean Society in 1912 in recognition of her services .
