Clarence House is the official residence of the British heir to the throne, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla . With St James's Palace Clarence House is a building complex, which is located within the walls of that royal palace.

The term Clarence House is a metonym for the personal office or press officer of the Prince of Wales. The building is located in the City of Westminster in west London on The Mall, not far from Buckingham Palace .

history

Clarence House was built by John Nash from 1825 to 1828 . The building has four floors and is clad with white stucco . Alfred von Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha used the building. For almost half a century, from 1953 until her death in 2002, Clarence House was the Queen Mother's residence . In 2002/2003 it was renovated for around 10 million euros. Prince William and Harry's office was relocated to neighboring St James's Palace in 2009 .
