Clark Arvo Matis (born July 1, 1946 in Durango , Colorado ) is a retired American cross-country skier .

Matis was a member of the US national team in cross-country skiing from 1969 to 1972, after winning the national title in the junior class in 1964 . In 1968 and 1969 he was able to win at the NCAA championships. He took part in the Winter Universiades in 1966 and 1968. He won the 15 and 30 kilometer races at the Rocky Mountain Regional Championships in 1971. He then took part in the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo , Japan . Over the 30 kilometers, he finished 53rd.

After finishing his active career, Matis worked for Rossignol before starting his own company for outdoor shoes with Randy Merrell and John Schweitzer in 1981 , which has been part of Wolverine Worldwide since 1997 . Matis holds various patents for shoe and boot designs.

Matis comes from a ski-loving family. His mother was the first woman on the University of Colorado ski team in 1939 , for which he also competed. His father was the longtime president of the Durango Ski Club and a trainer in La Plata County , Colorado.
