The Euskirchener Street in Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia , is a main thoroughfare. It was classified as Bundesstraße 56 and has been graded as a municipal road since the completion of the B 56n.

Euskirchener Straße begins at Friedrich-Ebert-Platz , then heads south to the exit from the town. There it turns into Stockheimer Landstrasse.

The road has four lanes along its entire length. It was named after the city of Euskirchen to which it leads. Before it was called Hindenburgstraße (named after the 4th honorary citizen of the city Paul von Hindenburg ).

In 1913 the Riemann barracks were built at the height of today's fire station and supermarkets . In 1914, the area of the street from today's Römerstraße to Zülpicher Straße was named Königgrätzer Straße in memory of the battle of Königgrätz . The name was changed to Hindenburgstrasse in 1915.

Today's Euskirchener Straße was a dirt road between Oststraße and Römerstraße until the end of the 1950s. The course of the road leading to the outskirts was as follows: starting at Friedrich-Ebert-Platz as Eberhard-Hoesch-Straße , then shortly before Oststraße, turning right diagonally (the sloping house front can still be seen today), then across the street "Im Eschfeld" , crossing the Frankenstrasse , into today's Eberhard-Hoesch-Strasse to the Zülpicher Strasse.

It was not until the 1960s that the street was continuously expanded as Euskirchener Straße and the other streets were partially dismantled, e.g. B. "In Eschfeld".

By resolution of the council of November 6, 1973, the street was renamed Euskirchener Strasse.

In 2015, a 30 km / h limit was set in the lower area. In December 2018, the section between Oststrasse and Friedrich-Ebert-Platz was closed to trucks.

In the Euskirchener Straße are

  • the commercial vocational college,
  • the St. Bonifatius Elementary School,
  • the permanently manned guard of the Düren volunteer fire brigade ,
  • Supermarkets and gas stations.
