Claude-France Arnould (born August 14, 1953 ) is a French EU official and the ambassador of the  French Republic to the Kingdom of Belgium .

Life

Arnould began her career in 1981 in the French Foreign Ministry in the North America Directorate. After that she was a consultant for economic and financial affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 1986; there she was also responsible for France's EC trade policy . In 1987 she moved to the private office of the French Minister for European Affairs. From 1987 to 1989 she was Secretary General of the École nationale d'administration (ENA).

She was then Director of International and Strategic Affairs in the French National Secretariat General of the Prime Minister, where she was responsible for the preparation of the National Defense Council, arms export control and aerospace affairs. In 1989 she became Deputy Director for European Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry. From 1994 to 1998 she was First Counselor of the French Embassy in Germany .

From 2001 to 2009 she was Director of Defense in the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union ; in that capacity, she was responsible for military partnerships, operations and capabilities, as well as chairing the European Satellite Center . She then headed the Crisis Management and Planning Department (CMPD) in the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union until 2010.

She took over her mandate as managing director of EDA on January 17, 2011; in October 2013 her mandate was extended again until January 15, 2015, this was done by a unanimous decision of the member states. Her superior was the EU Commissioner responsible for foreign and security policy and Vice-President of the EU Commission Catherine Ashton .
