Claude-Sixte Sautreau de Marsy (* 1740 in Paris ; † May 8, 1815 ibid) was a French publicist and writer .

Live and act

It is known that Sautreau took part in a competition of the Académie française in 1766 , but did not win it. After that he no longer appeared as a writer, but always published anonymously as publisher and editor. He also belonged to a literary circle around the wife of the lawyer and royal advisor Pierre-Lucien Pannelier . During the French Revolution he kept a low profile and devoted himself only to his publications.

Sautreau became known for the establishment of the first muses almanac , the Almanach des muses , in 1765. This was created with the collaboration of Charles-Joseph Mathon de La Cour and Étienne Vigée . After Sautreau had given up the management in 1789, Étienne Vigée took over the publication and continued this until his death in 1820. The almanac was published until 1833. In the first edition, the almanac was a bound, calendar work with astronomical data, which offered the educated reader a selection of literary texts published in the previous year. In the second edition, mostly new publications were published.

In his extensive oeuvre, Sautreau devotes himself entirely to contemporary lyric and poetry.
