Claude Guichard (mathematician)

Claude Guichard (born December 26, 1861 in Azé , † May 6, 1924 in Paris ) was a French mathematician who studied geometry.

Guichard studied from 1880 to 1883 at de École normal supérieure with Gaston Darboux , Jules Tannery and Charles Hermite and at the Sorbonne with Félix Tisserand and Jean-Claude Bouquet . In 1882 he received his licentiate and in 1883 he received his doctorate. In 1884 he became maitre de conférences in Nancy and in 1886 in Rennes . From 1888 he taught in Clermont-Ferrand , where he became professor of mechanics in 1892. In 1910 he was appointed to the Sorbonne, where he received the title of professor in 1913, first for mathematics (Mathématiques générales) and in 1918 for geometry.

In 1917 he was president of the Société mathématique de France . In 1920 he became a Knight of the Legion of Honor and in 1904 a corresponding member of the Académie des Sciences .
