Claude Royet-Journoud

Claude Royet-Journoud (* 1941 in Lyon ) is a French poet.

Life

Together with Anne-Marie Albiach and Michel Couturier , he was the co-founder and editor of the magazine Siècle à mains between 1963 and 1970 . In the 1960s he began translating American poetry into French , including works by George Oppen , John Ashbery , Keith Waldrop , Charles Bernstein, and Louis Zukofsky . Together with Emmanuel Hocquard , he edited two anthologies of American poetry: 21 + 1: Poètes améicains d'aujourd'hui (1986) and 49 + 1: nouveaux poètes américains (1991). He was also the editor of the small magazine Zuk , in which French translations of the works of American poets appeared.

Royet-Journoud's work has appeared in magazines such as Acts , Conjunctions , Temblor , o-blek , New Directions , Moving Letters and Lingo . Some of his works have been translated into English (by Keith Waldrop), Greek, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and Romanian.

Claude Royet-Journoud lives in Paris .
