Emmanuel Hocquard
Emmanuel Hocquard (born April 11, 1940 in Cannes - † January 27, 2019 in Mérilheu , Hautes-Pyrénées ) was a French writer and translator .
Life
Hocquard grew up in Tangier . He was the co-founder and editor of the small publishing house Orange Export Ltd. (1973–1986) and edited two important anthologies of contemporary American poetry with Claude Royet-Journoud . 21 + 1: Poètes américains d'aujourdhui with the corresponding English version 21 + 1: American Poets Today (1986) and 49 + 1 (1989). In 1989, Hocquard founded Un bureau sur l'Atlantique , an association that promotes links between French and American poets.
In addition to poetry, Hocquard has written essays and a novel , and has translated into French American and Portuguese authors such as Charles Reznikoff , Michael Palmer , Paul Auster , Benjamin Hollander , Antonio Cisneros and Fernando Pessoa . His own work has been partially translated into English by Rosmarie Waldrop and published in the USA. He made the video film Le Voyage à Reykjavik with Alexandre Delay . He also worked with Anne-Marie Albiach .
He died on January 27, 2019 at the age of 78 in Mérilheu.
