Claude Thomas Stanfield Moore

Claude Thomas Stanfield Moore (born June 1, 1853 in Nottingham , Nottinghamshire , England ; † April 2, 1901 ibid) was an English landscape painter who was also known for his sea paintings and pictures of London .

Life

Moore was the son of art-loving architect Thomas Cooper Moore , who devoted his spare time to founding the Nottingham Society of Artists , painting, and training his two sons in the arts. Claude first trained as a lithographer , but was able to establish himself as a freelance artist in 1880. All three Moores, father Thomas, Claude and his brother Reuben, also known as Rubens, were popular artists who depicted the rapidly changing Great Britain. Her means of expression were pencil, charcoal and red chalk drawings, watercolors and oil paintings.

Claude Moore had a studio in Nottingham, but worked mainly in London from 1882 on . His river pictures or lake pictures from these years show great attention to detail in connection with dramatic lighting effects. His style shows influences from two of his hometown painters, Henry Dawson and William Turner . An example of his work from this period is the painting Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament .

Since 1880, Claude Moore exhibited regularly at the Nottingham Castle Museum and the Nottingham Society of Artists. He died in his hometown at the age of 47.
