Claude Trahan (born March 17, 1939 in Trois-Rivières , † December 6, 1975 in Shawinigan ) was a Canadian ski jumper .

Career

Trahan was already one of the emerging talents of the Trois-Rivières Ski Club in the early 1950s . In 1957 he won the Canadian junior title in ski jumping. However, despite this success, he found it difficult to gain a foothold among adults. It was not until 1963 that he was accepted into the national team. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 , he was a substitute for the team. Even at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1966 , he was only a substitute. Until 1968 he started exclusively in the United States and in his native Canada. Despite this, he was nominated for the 1968 Winter Olympics in Grenoble together with Ulf Kvendbo and John McInnes . There, however, he could not convince and was only 57th on the normal hill and only 58th of 58 starters on the large hill. Shortly before the games, he achieved fourth place at the Canadian Championships, his best national placement to date.

At the following Nordic World Ski Championships in 1970 in Štrbské Pleso , he traveled again with the team, but then did not take part in the competitions.

As a result, Trahan continued to jump nationally until March 1974, before finally ending his career.

On December 6, 1975, less than two years after retiring, Trahan and one of his sons died in a car accident at Shawinigan .
