Claudia Kugelmann

Claudia Kugelmann (* 1947 ) is a German sports educator and university teacher .

Life

After studying to be a teacher in the subjects of sport, German and history in Munich between 1966 and 1973 , Kugelmann held a position as a research assistant at the Chair of Sport Education at the Technical University of Munich from 1974 and also worked in school. She completed her doctoral thesis (title "Coeducation in physical education") in 1979 at the Technical University of Munich. Kugelmann worked as a research assistant in Munich until 1995, completing her habilitation with the title “Strong Girls - Beautiful Women ?: Femininity and Sport in Everyday Life” in 1995 at the Leibniz University of Hanover .

In 1995, Kugelmann accepted a professorship for sports education / sports didactics at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . Between 2005 and 2007 she was dean there. In 2010 Kugelmann retired from university.

Her academic work focused on aspects of women and gender research, including girls' and women’s football as well as female identity and sport, masculinity in relation to popular sport and competitive sport for young people. Other topics were health and exercise, including senior sports, sports at school, at the vocational school and in the company, a school sailing project, forms of play for adolescents, joint sports for disabled and non-disabled people, and the sport of basketball.

From 1999 to 2003 Kugelmann worked on the board of the German Association for Sports Science .

In retirement in 2018, she published a book about traveling to Norway .
