Claudia Nielsen

Claudia Nielsen (* 1962 in South Africa ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). She belonged to the nine-member executive of Zurich, the city ​​council .

Life

Claudia Nielsen was born in South Africa in 1962 and grew up in Thalwil , Rüschlikon and Wettswil . After obtaining the baccalaureate at the Kantonsschule Enge (1981) she studied from 1982 at the University of Zurich economics and business administration and economic geography and graduated in 1987 with the licentiate from. She then obtained a doctorate in micro and environmental economics from the University of Zurich (1992).

From 1987 to 1993 Claudia Nielsen worked as an assistant and research assistant at the Institute for Social Economics and the Geographical Institute of the University of Zurich. From 1993 she worked as party secretary of the SP of the city of Zurich. From 1999 to 2008 she was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Alternative Bank Schweiz AG. From 2009 to 2010 she was Managing Director of Oikocredit Deutsche Schweiz. In addition, she worked as a freelance economist from 1999 to 2010 and offered business and organizational consulting, project management and mediation.

Political career

From 1993 to 1999 Claudia Nielsen worked as party secretary of the SP of the City of Zurich and from 1994 to 2010 she sat on the City Council of Zurich. During this time she was active in various commissions. She presided over the Police, Civil Engineering and Waste Management Commission (1998–2000, 2008–2010) and the Transport Commission (2004–2006).

In 2010 she was elected to the City Council, where she heads the Health and Environment Department. This department includes the Waid and Triemli municipal hospitals, the care and elderly centers, the health services and environmental and health protection. For the general renewal elections on February 9, 2014, she was nominated and re-elected to the city council together with Mayor Corine Mauch and André Odermatt (previously) and Raphael Golta (new). On February 7, 2018, she announced that she was not running for any further term.
