Gustav Küstermann

Gustav Küstermann (born May 24, 1850 in Detmold , Principality of Lippe , †  December 25, 1919 in Green Bay , Wisconsin ) was an American politician of German origin. Between 1907 and 1911 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Gustav Küstermann attended the public schools in his homeland in Lippe. In 1864 he finished school at the Leopoldinum Gymnasium there . He then worked in the textile trade in Hamburg . In 1868 Küstermann emigrated to the United States, where he settled in Green Bay (Wisconsin). In his new home he was also active in the trade. He also held several local offices there. Between 1892 and 1896 Küstermann was a postman in Green Bay. Between 1904 and 1907 he was president of a state control committee.

Politically, Küstermann was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1906 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded Edward S. Minor on March 4, 1907 . After a re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1911 . In the elections of 1910 he was defeated by the Democrat Thomas F. Konop . In the following years he dealt with literary activities in his home town of Green Bay. Gustav Küstermann died in this city on December 25, 1919.
