Adolphus Peter Nelson (born March 28, 1872 in Alexandria , Douglas County , Minnesota , †  August 21, 1927 in Grantsburg , Wisconsin ) was an American politician . Between 1918 and 1923 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Adolphus Nelson attended the public schools of his home country and then studied until 1897 at Hamline University in Saint Paul . In 1897 he moved to Grantsburg, Wisconsin, where he worked in the banking industry. Between 1906 and 1920 Nelson was a board member of the University of Wisconsin ; from 1916 to 1920 he was its chairman. From 1910 to 1916 he also chaired the school committee of Grantsburg. From 1914 to 1916 he was also mayor of this place. From 1914 to 1918 he also served as Vice President of the Board of Trustees of Hamline University.

Politically, Nelson was a member of the Republican Party . After the resignation of MP Irvine Lenroot , who had been elected to the US Senate , he was elected as its successor to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he stood on November 5, at the due by-election for the eleventh seat of Wisconsin He took up his new mandate in 1918. After two re-elections, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1923 . The First World War ended right at the beginning of his term of office . The 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution were passed while he was a member of Congress .

In 1922 Adolphus Nelson was not nominated for re-election by his party. In the following years up to his death on August 21, 1927 he worked in Grantsburg again in the banking industry.
