LaVern Dilweg Ralph (* 11. January 1903 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin ; † 2 January 1968 in Saint Petersburg , Florida ) Nickname : "Lavvie" was a US American football players and politicians . He played end with the Milwaukee Badgers and the Green Bay Packers in the National Football League (NFL).

career

College career

Dilweg studied at the Marquette University Law and played at the Marquette Golden Avalanche Football and Basketball . American football was a running game in its early days. Passports were allowed, but were rarely used as a means of attack. LaVern Dilweg therefore also played in the position of a tackle . Dilweg was voted All American as a football player because of his athletic performance . In 1925 he played in the East-West Shrine Game , a selection game of the best college football players.

Professional career

In 1926, LaVern Dilweg switched to the pros as a player and initially joined the Milwaukee Badgers. At the same time he continued his law studies. In 1926, the Badgers had to stop their game operations due to financial problems and Dilweg switched to the Green Bay Packers trained by Curly Lambeau . In 1927 he also successfully completed his law degree.

With the team from Green Bay , he won the NFL championship three times . In 1929 you could survive the season without defeat and became champions before the New York Giants , this was then again achieved in 1930 and 1931. In 1934 Dilweg ended his playing career and then became a lawyer and politician.

After his career, LaVern Dilweg worked as a lawyer and business consultant. As a Democrat , he was a member of the US House of Representatives from 1943 to 1954 . From 1954 he worked again as a lawyer and had offices in both Green Bay and Washington, DC Dilweg, who suffered from cancer , died on a trip to Florida and is buried in Fort Howard Memorial Park in Green Bay , Wisconsin .
