Myron Hawley McCord (born November 26, 1840 in Ceres , McKean County , Pennsylvania , † April 27, 1908 in Phoenix , Arizona ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ).

Career

McCord attended the Richburg Academy in New York , then moved to Wisconsin in 1854 and settled in Shawano County . In 1875 he moved to Merrill . During this time he worked as a publisher, forest worker and farmer. He also published a newspaper between 1868 and 1883.

He decided to pursue a political career in 1873 and was elected to the Wisconsin Senate, where he served until 1874. In 1876 he represented Wisconsin as a delegate at the Republican National Convention . He was also a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1881 . He then worked from February 26, 1884 to June 24, 1885 as a register (officer responsible for the register) in the US land registry in Wausau .

McCord was elected as a Republican to the 51st US Congress . There he was active from March 4, 1889 to March 3, 1891 in the House of Representatives . He failed in his re-election attempt in the 52nd Congress in 1890 , but won the election in the 53rd Congress . He then returned to Merrill, where he did agricultural work and the timber industry.

President William McKinley made him governor of the Arizona Territory in 1897 . However, he resigned from this post in 1898 to set up a territorial regiment for the Spanish-American War . On May 1, 1902, he was appointed US Marshal for the District of Arizona , a position he held until July 1, 1905. Later he also worked as a tax collector for the customs authority ( Collector of customs ) for the port of Nogales .

He died on April 27, 1908 and was buried in Merrill.

Marriages

McCord was married three times in his life. His first marriage was in 1861 with Anna Mariah Murray. He then divorced her in 1876. A year later, in 1877, he married Sarah Etta Space. He was married to her until her death in 1903. After her death he married again in 1904 to Mary Emma Winslow.
