George B. Shaw

George Bullen Shaw (born March 12, 1854 in Alma , Allegany County , New York , †  August 27, 1894 in Eau Claire , Wisconsin ) was an American politician . Between 1893 and 1894 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

As early as 1856, George Shaw came to Eau Claire, Wisconsin with his father, where he attended public schools. He then studied at the International Business College in Chicago ( Illinois ) until 1871 . Upon returning to Wisconsin, Shaw started working in the lumber business. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Republican Party . Between 1876 and 1887 he was a member of the local council of Eau Claire, from 1888 to 1889 he was mayor of this place. In 1884 he took part as a delegate at the Republican National Convention in Chicago, at which James G. Blaine was nominated as a presidential candidate.

In the congressional election of 1892 , George Shaw was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded Democrat Frank P. Coburn on March 4, 1893 . Shaw could not finish his term of office in Congress, which actually ran until March 3, 1895 , because he died on August 27, 1894. He was buried in Eau Claire.
