John C. Brophy

John Charles Brophy (born October 8, 1901 in Eagle , Walworth County , Wisconsin , †  December 26, 1976 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin) was an American politician . Between 1947 and 1949 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

John Brophy attended Milwaukee public schools and St. Patrick's and Marquette Academy . During the First World War he served in the US Navy . He remained a marine until 1921. Brophy worked as a mechanic between 1922 and 1938. From 1939 to 1946 he was a member of the Republican Party on Milwaukee City Council. In 1942 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress.

In the congressional election of 1946 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded Thaddeus Wasielewski on January 3, 1947 . Since he in the elections of 1938 the Democrats Clement J. Zablocki was defeated, he could only one term in until January 3, 1949 Congress completed. In 1950 he applied unsuccessfully to return to the House of Representatives. In the following years he worked in trade and public relations. In 1969 he retired. John Brophy died on December 26, 1976 in Milwaukee and was buried there.
