Alvin James Baldus (born April 27, 1926 in Garner , Hancock County , Iowa , † February 2, 2017 in Menomonie , Wisconsin ) was an American politician . Between 1975 and 1981 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Alvin Baldus attended Elkton High School in Minnesota and then between 1946 and 1948 Austin Junior College , also in Minnesota. He then started working in the investment industry and became an agricultural machinery dealer. From 1944 to 1946 Baldus was a member of the American merchant navy . During the Korean War he was a soldier in the US Army from 1951 to 1953 . Politically, Baldus joined the Democratic Party . Between 1966 and 1975 he was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly . In 1973 he was deputy leader of the Democratic MPs. From 1966 to 1987 he was a delegate to all regional Democratic party conventions in Wisconsin.

In the 1974 congressional election , Baldus was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded Vernon Wallace Thomson on January 3, 1975 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1981 . After serving in the US House of Representatives, Baldus returned to the Wisconsin state parliament between 1989 and 1996. After that, he no longer appeared politically. Most recently he lived in Prescott .
