Menomonie is a city (with the status " City ") and the administrative seat of Dunn County in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 Menomonie had 16,264 residents.

geography

Menomonie lies at 44 ° 53 'north latitude and 91 ° 55' west longitude, extends over 40.07 km² (35.46 km² of which land area) at an altitude of 249  m above sea level. The city is located on Lake Menomin , a reservoir on the Red Cedar River .

The Interstate 94 leads in the north west to east through the city. The US Highway 12 runs from the east on the southwestern shore of the reservoir along up through the northwest of the city. Wisconsin Highways 25 and 29 run through the city in north-south and east-west directions, respectively.

The city was connected to the rail network of the Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha Railway and the "Chippewa River and Menomonie Railway Company". Rail service is currently provided by the Union Pacific and the route along the Red Cedar River is part of the Red Cedar State Trail .

The Chippewa Valley Regional Airport located 35 kilometers east of the city.

The closest larger cities are Eau Claire (approx. 40 km east) and the Twin Cities ( Minneapolis and Saint Paul ) in Minnesota (approx. 100 km west). Madison , the capital of the state is about 330 km southeast and Chicago , the next megacity , about 550 km southeast.

According to the 2010 census , there were 16,264 people in 5,743 households in Menomonia. The population density was 488.4 people per square kilometer. Statistically, 2.26 people lived in each of the 5743 households.

The racial the population was composed of 91.9 percent white, 0.8 percent African American, 0.5 percent Native American, 4.2 percent Asian and 0.6 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.9 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.7 percent of the population.

13.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 75.6 percent were between 18 and 64 and 11.0 percent were 65 years or older. 50.5 percent of the population was female.

The average annual income for a household was 38,492  USD . The per capita income was $ 18,028. 30.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.

The University of Wisconsin-Stout with over 9,000 students (2017) at the location is an important economic factor.
