Herman L. Humphrey

Herman Leon Humphrey (born March 14, 1830 in Candor , Tioga County , New York , †  June 10, 1902 in Hudson , Wisconsin ) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1883 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Herman Humphrey attended his homeland public schools and the Cortland Academy . He then worked for a few years as an employee in Ithaca . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1854, he began to work in Hudson (Wisconsin) in his new profession from 1855. He later became a district attorney in St. Croix County . In 1860 and 1861 he was a district judge there.

Politically, Humphrey was a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Wisconsin Senate from 1862 to 1863 ; then he served as mayor of the city of Hudson for a year. Between 1866 and 1876 he was a judge in the eighth judicial district of Wisconsin. In the congressional elections of 1876 Humphrey was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded Jeremiah McLain Rusk on March 4, 1877 . After two re-elections, he was able to complete three legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1883 .

For the elections of 1882 Humphrey was not nominated again by his party. In the following years he worked again as a lawyer. In 1887 he was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly . Herman Humphrey died in Hudson on June 10, 1902.
