Henry S. Magoon

Henry Sterling Magoon (born January 31, 1832 in Monticello , Lafayette County , Wisconsin , †  March 3, 1889 in Darlington , Wisconsin) was an American politician . Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Henry Magoon visited the Rock River Seminary in Mount Morris ( Illinois ) and then the Western Military College in Drennon ( Kentucky ). After studying law at the Montrose Law School in Frankfort and being admitted to the bar in 1857, he began working in his new profession in Shullsburg . In the meantime he taught ancient languages at the University of Nashville in Tennessee . From 1858 Magoon was based in Darlington, where he also practiced as a lawyer. In the same year he also became a district attorney there .

Politically, Magoon was a member of the Republican Party . He was a member of the Wisconsin Senate in 1871 and 1872 . In the congressional elections of 1874 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded J. Allen Barber on March 4, 1875 . Since he refused to run again in 1876, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1877 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Henry Magoon returned to work as a lawyer. He died in Darlington on March 3, 1889.
