Edward E. Browne
Edward Everts Browne (born February 16, 1868 in Waupaca , Waupaca County , Wisconsin , † November 23, 1945 in Evanston , Illinois ) was an American politician . Between 1913 and 1931 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .
Life
Edward Browne attended public schools in his home country including Waupaca High School . He then studied until 1890 at the University of Wisconsin – Madison . After a subsequent law degree at the same university and his admission as a lawyer in 1892, he began to work in Waupaca in his new profession. Between 1898 and 1905 he was a district attorney in Waupaca County. Politically, Browne was a member of the Republican Party . In 1902, 1904 and 1906 he took part as a delegate at their regional party conventions in Wisconsin. In 1905 and 1906 he was a board member of the University of Wisconsin; from 1907 to 1912 he was a member of the Wisconsin Senate .
In the 1912 congressional election , Browne was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eighth constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded James H. Davidson on March 4, 1913 . After eight re-elections, he was able to complete nine consecutive terms in Congress by March 3, 1931 . During this time, the First World War and the adoption of the 16th , 17th , 18th and 19th amendments to the Constitution took place . His last term in Congress was marked by the events of the Great Depression.
In the run-up to the 1930 elections , Edward Browne was not nominated for another term by his party. As a result, he worked again as a lawyer. Between 1936 and 1941, Browne was a member of the Wisconsin State Government's Conservation Commission . He died in Evanston on November 23, 1945 and was buried in Waupaca.
