Joshua Leroy Johns (born February 27, 1881 in Eagle , Richland County , Wisconsin , †  March 16, 1947 in Green Bay , Wisconsin) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1943 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joshua Johns attended the public schools in his home country and then worked in the banking industry at Richland Center between 1902 and 1905 . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Chattanooga in Tennessee and at Yale University and his admission as a lawyer in 1906, he began working in his new profession in Chattanooga . From 1910 he practiced in the city of Richland Center. In 1920 he moved his residence and law firm to Appleton . In addition, Johns participated in various commercial enterprises. In 1928 and 1929 he was a colonel in the National Guard of his home state.

Politically, Johns was a member of the Republican Party . In the 1938 congressional election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the eighth constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded George J. Schneider on January 3, 1939 . After re-election in 1940, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until January 3, 1943 . There, further New Deal laws were passed by the federal government by 1941 . Since December 1941, the work of the Congress was also shaped by the events of the Second World War .

In the 1942 elections, Johns was defeated by the Democrat LaVern Dilweg . After leaving the US House of Representatives, he returned to work as a lawyer. He was also the president of several companies in the wood industry. Joshua Johns died in Green Bay on March 16, 1947.
