Bryan Steil (born March 3, 1981 in Janesville , Wisconsin ) is an American politician and lawyer. Since January 2019 he has represented the first congressional constituency of Wisconsin in the United States House of Representatives. He is a member of the Republican Party .

Life

Steep grew up in Janesville and attended high school there . He first studied economics at Georgetown University and earned a bachelor's degree . He then trained as a lawyer at the University of Wisconsin – Madison . After graduating, he worked as a legal advisor to Paul Ryan's office and to the law firm McDermott Will & Emery . Since 2009 he has worked as a lawyer in the manufacturing industry.

In 2016 he became a member of the University of Wisconsin Board of Directors .

politics

Steil ran in Wisconsin-1 electoral district , where previous House Speaker Paul Ryan did not run again. He prevailed in the Republican primary with 51.6% of the vote against five other applicants. He won the general election with 54.6% against the Democratic candidate , Randy Bryce, who received 42.3%.
