Charles H. Weisse

Charles Herman Weisse (born October 24, 1866 in Sheboygan Falls , Sheboygan County , Wisconsin , †  October 8, 1919 there ) was an American politician . Between 1903 and 1911 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Weisse attended the public schools in his home country and then the St. Paul Lutheran School . In 1880 he started working in a tannery. Eight years later he became a partner in this company. At the same time, Weisse embarked on a political career as a member of the Democratic Party . Between 1893 and 1896 he was chairman of the Sheboygan Falls parish council; Between 1897 and 1900 he managed the finances of the school board as treasurer. In 1904 and 1908 he was a delegate to the respective Democratic National Conventions .

In 1900 he ran unsuccessfully for Congress . In the congressional elections of 1902 he was then elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the sixth constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded James H. Davidson , who moved to the eighth district, on March 4, 1903 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by March 3, 1911. In 1910, Weisse declined to run again. In the following years he worked in his hometown of Sheboygan Falls, mainly in leather production. He was also involved in numerous other business ventures. On October 8, 1919, he was accidentally killed in his hometown. The sources do not give any more precise information about the exact background of his death.
