Charles Hawks

Charles Hawks (born July 7, 1899 in Horicon , Dodge County , Wisconsin , †  January 6, 1960 in Bryn Mawr , Pennsylvania ) was an American politician . Between 1939 and 1941 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Charles Hawks attended public schools in his home country and then graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison commercial school . During World War I , he served in the US Navy from 1917 to 1919 . Between 1922 and 1925 he worked as a salesman; from 1925 to 1943 he worked in the insurance industry.

Politically, Hawks was a member of the Republican Party . Since 1933 he was a delegate at their regional party congresses in Wisconsin. From 1935 to 1939 he was a member of the county council in Dodge County. In the 1938 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the second constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded Harry Sauthoff on January 3, 1939 . Since he lost to Sauthoff in the 1940 elections, he was only able to serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1941 .

In 1942, Hawks competed unsuccessfully to return to Congress. In 1943 he moved to Wynnewood , Pennsylvania. There he worked for the Philadelphia- based company General Grinding Wheel Corp. in research and in public relations. In this company he rose to become vice president. Charles Hawks died on January 6, 1960 in Bryn Mawr and was buried in Horicon.
