Tobias Anton "Toby" Roth (born October 10, 1938 in Strasburg , Emmons County , North Dakota ) is a former American politician . Between 1979 and 1997 he represented the state of Wisconsin in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Toby Roth attended St. Mary's High School in Menasha, Wisconsin , until 1957 . He then studied until 1961 at Marquette University in Milwaukee . Between 1962 and 1969 he was a lieutenant in the US Army Reserve . Then he worked as a broker.

Politically, Roth joined the Republican Party . Between 1972 and 1978 he was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly . In the 1978 congressional election , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eighth constituency of Wisconsin , where he succeeded Democrat Robert John Cornell on January 3, 1979 . After eight re-elections, he was able to complete nine consecutive terms in Congress by January 3, 1997 . The 27th amendment to the constitution was passed there in 1992 .

In 1996, Roth declined to run again. After leaving the US House of Representatives, he withdrew from politics. He now lives in Great Falls ( Virginia ).
