John Fife Symington III (born August 12, 1945 in New York City ) is a former American politician ( Republican Party ). He was governor of the state of Arizona from 1991 to 1997 .

Early years

J. Fife Symington III grew up in Maryland after he was born in New York City . He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in humanities from Harvard University in 1968 . He then joined the United States Air Force . In 1971 he received the Bronze Star for his Meritorious Service in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War . In the same year he left the Air Force with the rank of captain . In 1976 in the United States he founded the Symington Company , a commercial industrial company, of which he was President and CEO until May 1989 . At that time he started his gubernatorial campaign.

Governor of Arizona

Symington was elected 19th Governor of Arizona in 1991. During this period there were tax cuts, income growth and increased capital investment. However, in September 1997 he was convicted of a criminal offense. He allegedly defrauded lenders as a property developer in the 1980s. He immediately resigned and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. He served as governor from March 6, 1991 to September 5, 1997.

Under him, Arizona resumed the execution of death row inmates. A total of eight prisoners were executed.

Another résumé

During his revision, Symington did an apprenticeship as a chef in the catering industry. In 1999, the Ninth District Federal Court of Appeals overturned Symington's conviction. Two years later , President Bill Clinton pardoned him . Relieved, Symington founded his own cooking school and now works as a pastry chef in a restaurant in Phoenix .
