John Howard Pyle

John Howard Pyle (born March 25, 1906 in Sheridan , Wyoming , † November 29, 1987 in Tempe , Arizona ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) and from 1951 to 1955 governor of the state of Arizona.

Early years

Pyle has had an extensive career in broadcasting, from broadcasting the Japanese surrender during World War II to co-founding the national broadcaster Easter Sunrise Services around the Grand Canyon . He was married to Lucile Hanna, with whom he had two children.

Governor of Arizona

Pyle was elected governor of Arizona on November 7, 1950 and sworn in on January 1, 1951. He won his re-election in 1952. During his two terms the Underground Water Commission was created, the Arizona Development Board established, and the Civil Defense Act passed. The Western Regional Cooperation Agreement on Higher Education was also approved. US President Harry S. Truman also signed an amendment to the Arizona Statehood Enabling Act , which guaranteed long-term rental on Arizona land for the construction of natural gas pipelines . Pyle was unsuccessful in his third candidacy for the office and so he left it on January 3, 1955.

Another résumé

In the same year he joined President Eisenhower's staff in Washington as director of federal-state relations , a position he held until 1959. He was then appointed President of the National Safety Council . He died on November 29, 1987 in Tempe, Arizona.
