Coordinates: 35 ° 16 ′  S , 140 ° 55 ′  E The District Council of Southern Mallee is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of South Australia . The area is 6000 km² and has about 2000 inhabitants (2016).

Southern Mallee is located in the Murray Lands in east South Australia on the border with Victoria about 220 kilometers east of the metropolis of Adelaide . The area includes nine hamlets and localities: Geranium, Gurrai, Karte, Kulkami, Lameroo, Parilla, Parrakie, Pinnaroo and Wilkawatt. The council is headquartered in Pinnaroo in the east of the LGA.

The Southern Mallee Council has nine members elected by the residents of the four wards (three each from Bews and Kelly / Scales Ward, two from Price-Cotton and one from Gray Ward). These four districts are defined independently of the localities. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
