Claudia Sode

Claudia Sode (born May 10, 1969 in Eisenach ) is a German Byzantinist .

Claudia Sode studied From 1987 to 1994 Byzantine Studies , Modern Greek Philology , Classical Philology and German Philology at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena , in Berlin ( Humboldt University and Free University ) and at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki . From 1994 to 2004 she worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Classical Studies in Jena. In 2000 she received her PhD from the same university. She completed research stays at the Dumbarton Oaks Center for Byzantine Studies ( Harvard University ) in Washington DC and as a Feodor Lynen research fellow at the Center d'Histoire et Civilization de Byzance in Paris. In 2004 he completed his habilitation. In 2005 she was appointed to the chair of Byzantine Studies at the University of Cologne as the successor to Peter Schreiner .
