Claudine Countess Rhédey von Kis-Rhéde (born September 21, 1812 in Erdőszentgyörgy , † October 1, 1841 in Pettau ) was a Hungarian noblewoman and the grandmother of the British Queen and Empress of India, Queen Mary .

Life

Claudine was the daughter of Count László Rhédey of Kis-Rhéde and his wife, Baroness Agnes Inczédy de Nagy-Várad.

On May 2, 1835, Claudine Rhédey of Kis-Rhéde married Prince Alexander of Württemberg (1804–1885), the only son of Duke Ludwig of Württemberg and his second wife, Princess Henriette of Nassau-Weilburg . The marriage had three children:

⚭ 1866 Mary Adelaide of Cambridge , Princess of Great Britain, Ireland and Hanover
  • Amalie Josephine Henriette Agnes Susanne (1838–1893), Countess von Hohenstein
⚭ 1863 Count Paul von Hügel (1835–1897)

Her husband was excluded from the succession in Württemberg because of this inappropriate marriage . Claudine received the title of Countess von Hohenstein on May 16, 1835. After six years of marriage, Claudine was trampled to death by horses running through during a cavalry exercise by Alexander.
