Claus-Dieter Clausen
Claus-Dieter Clausen (born January 13, 1937 in Mönchengladbach ; † May 21, 2007 ) was a German paleontologist and geologist .
Life
After graduating from high school in Mönchengladbach, Clausen studied geology in Bonn and Vienna from 1957 with a diploma in Bonn in 1962, mapping an area of Waldbröl in the Rhenish Slate Mountains, which led him to his later main area, the Devonian . In 1966 he received his doctorate summa cum laude in palaeontology from Heinrich K. Erben (Upper Devonian cephalopods from the Rhenish Slate Mountains). Then he was at the Geological State Office of North Rhine-Westphalia in Krefeld in the Sauerland and Siegerland department. He mapped u. a. Lennestadt , Warstein , Hirschberg im Sauerland, Kirchhundem. With Klaus Leuteritz (1937–1996) he worked on the Soest-Erwitte 1 research well. In 1986 he took over the coal and ore petrography department , in 1990 mineralogy, petrology, geochemistry and in 1995 the laboratories department. In 2001 he retired.
The cephalopod genus Clauseniceras and the species Linguaclymena clauseni (Korn, Price 1987) are named after him.
From 1980 he was on the Devonian Stratigraphy subcommittee (2nd chairman 1988 to 1996). He dealt in particular with the Devonian-Carboniferous border and the Middle / Upper Devonian border in the northern and eastern Rhenish Slate Mountains.
