Claus Wagner (drummer)

Claus Wagner (* 1965 ) is a German drummer .

Wagner learned to play the drums mainly autodidactically . The spectrum of the first bands in his hometown Lohr am Main (mostly with the drummer and performer Rudolf Porzelt and the guitarist Michael Lembach) lay between free improvisation and rock. After training at the FMW Frankfurter Musikwerkstatt (with Peter Giger ), he studied jazz drums with Michael Küttner at the Cologne University of Music . Since then, Claus Wagner has played in numerous projects with musicians such as Peter Kowald , Tom Cora , Matthias Schubert , Axel Dörner , Sebastian Gramss , Frank Wingold and Frank Gratkowski . With the groups Ballhaus around songwriter Adrian Ils and the septet Novotnik 44 (with Udo Moll ) he won various awards (including the German Record Critics' Award).

At the moment, Claus Wagner is mainly devoting himself to teaching; Among other things, he works at the JazzHausSchule Köln .
