The Clausenmühle

The Clausenmühle is a former watermill on the Swabian river Glems in the district of Leonberg's Eltingen district .

history

The mill was first mentioned in 1304. At that time it belonged to the Katharinenspital in Esslingen . Brother Klaus was the miller and the mill has kept his name to this day. The mill canal of the Clausenmühle was used at the beginning of the 20th century as the first "Leonberger Bad" against entry to the miller. The flour was brought out in the classic way with a horse-drawn carriage .

When the Americans marched into Leonberg in 1945, courageous Leonberg citizens, against the will of the National Socialists , hoisted the white flag , including the miller of the Clausen mill, Gottfried Bolay, born in Gebersheim . Leonberg could be saved from major destruction.

After the mill building was completely destroyed after a fire in 1971, a residential building was built in its place.

present

Today the Clausenmühle is used as an agricultural property by the Dieter Bolay family - related to Hans Volker Bolay and Christof Bolay . The Clausenmühle runs a farm shop .
